Blog Post: The Inspiring Speeches

After reading the two speeches of Thomas Paine and Patrick Henry, I realized that the speeches had a lot of meaning. What was your impression of the speeches?

I believed that both of the stories/speeches were very moving. With the situation at hand and the oppression that was going on, both stories had put out very important points against King George and his tyranny. Although it was a long shot for the convincing of the Virginian colonists, and the citizens in the courtyard to join the cause for the American Revolution, neither Thomas Paine or Patrick Henry backed down from speaking about what they believed was right.

In my opinion, the main purpose of the story and the speech was to motivate both the citizens and the soldiers to fight with confidence and fury in the Revolutionary War. Based on the positive outcome of the war, it seems that the main goal of both the story and the speech was achieved.

the two speeches were very well written and straight to the point. i like dthe wrting and they talked about God, thomas Paine said that God would win the war for them. If i were a solider i would be pumped.

I think that both speeches were very good and well thought out. Even though they sort of had different meanings, they were still impressive and very agreeable. Both speeches motivated be to want to do what the speaker was asking of me to do. i felt like i was actually in that time period.

I believe that the speeches are each made to be received by the certain groups that they were read to. Paine’s was meant to be read to groups of normal people in towns and rally them to ether rejoin or join the fight. While Henry’s was meant to be read to the more educated people and persuade them to join in the fight for it was far ore logical and less emotional than Paine’s.

It was to get peoples spirits up in a time where morale may have been a little low for the people.
