After watching the film, I think that most of the characters fit their role especially John Proctor and all of the judges and reverends. I thought it was done very well on the movie and it was accurate. The part in the movie I thought was a little exagerated was the pretending of the girls and their sudden pains of others witchcraft. I really liked John Proctor as character who seems like a real man, who steps up to tell the truth to the court to help out his wife and his friends. This film was done very well.
I personally enjoyed the movie more than i did the play because of many reasons. When i was reading along with this plays, i couldn't see in my head what was actually going on. However when i watched the play i could see the actual layout. When i saw the first parts of the movie i somehow could relate to the visuals i had in my head. Yes, i enjoyed the movie more than the play for the simple reason that i could understand what was going on better.

Blogging Project Post #8

How does the film version of The Crucible compare to the play? Are there actors you think are good for their roles? Are there any you would change? Are there parts of the play you like/dislike more than you thought you would after reading the play?

Talk about the film and what you think of it.

The Adventure's of Tom Sawyer test was overall easy. The vocab was a piece of cake and the essay and short answer's were not too bad. The one part I didn't do so well at was the location part. The test was long and the added essay over the weekend dragged it out. However the grade I got back was good because if I got a question wrong, then it would'nt be so much taken off, due to the vast amount of questions. If you could do something to change it for next time I would have less short answer qustions.
The narrative about the slave Olaudah was a difficult story to discuss because it portrayed a lot of bad qualities of the white man and showed all the bad things they did to black slaves. With all the crowded people in the boat and lack of space and unsanitary diseases going around made me think about how tough it would be in that position. For our culture to talk about this is embarrising because these things we made the blacks endure is so bad and mean.
Thus far I think that the Crucible story is kind of weird and crazy. The part when Abigail drinks the blood and Betty tries to fly out of the window are both nonsense. The setting in the story seems to be taken at a town that is close to peoples houses, like John Proctor's. Also, I feel that it is wrong for Tituba being the blame just because she is black.
The evidence that was most suprisingly easy to see as a judge that they misses was when the girls repeated what Mary Warren said. The judges I thought could of easily of seen that it were pretense and they didn't. It really is quite easy to mock someone after they speak. The judges could have seen that it was another tactic for them getting out of trouble and lying.
My favorite character in the Crucible is Reverend Hale because he went from believing in the court system to hating the court system. Reverend Hale I thought was actually a pretty good person, especially once he got over the pathetic pretending of the girls. My least favorite character was Parris because he was selfish and wanted to have all the fame as a Pastor. He was only interesred in making his church richer in gold candles and had to have it his way. He did however had a half decent turn aroung at the end when he wanted Rebecca and John to be let go.
The reason why people in today's age don't believe in witches is because there has been so many movies and other ideas that have been used to get people to believe just for fun and imagination. Peole today already know witchcraft is fake, but back in the time of the Salem Witch Trials, nobody had seen this wierd set of actions because the Puritan society was so strict that they would'nt even allow dancing and playing games.

I think today as a society we now know that witches are not real. Hopefully. But back then many people believed in them because you always have a out cast that wants to make a big deal about something and everybody falls right in to there scandals or what ever they are doing. Also since they though the witches had to deal with the devil and thought they would be come the devils slaves by selling there soul to them. And even today so people still get offense when they hear the word devil and they get freaked out because they think they might be going to hell.
The reason John Proctor shouted God is dead, is because he was so upset and baffled by how everyone believed in witches. He said this also because he knew God was absolutely gone from this town and all the good people are being accused guilty and all the bad people are being trusted. John couldn't believe that these Judges and reverends were believing these young foolish girls over him and common sense.

Now that I am posting this blog after we have completed the story, I thought overall the play was ok. This play was not too exciting, but not too boring. For some reason i really couldn't get interested in this play. In the beginning, I was hoping that the play would eventually get to a certain point that would get me interested. However, this play overall was not the most exciting piece of literature that i have read.
The reason John Proctor shouted GOD IS DEAD, was because he knew the girls were wrong, and was upset with the fact that the judges and other townspeople would not take his word. What he really meant by saying this was that their is no liveliness in the town and not one good spirit. This man was being tried and falsely accussed for someting he did not do
The court in the time of the Salem Wich trials was so single-minded and only thought of themselves, for some odd reason they couldn't come to the fact that the girls or the "witches" were making false accussations. Even when they said they saw the bird in the rafters of the court room, and no one else did, although the judges did not make note of the bird, they still believed the girls without questioning.
The reason I think we do not worry too much about witches now a- days is because we can prove in many diffrent ways that they do nto exist. Back when the Salem witch trials were occurring I do not think they were neccessarily believing witches existed. I more less think it was a way for the people in Salem to have one another persecuted for wrong doings.
My favorite character in the Crucible would have to be Tituba. I like Tituba because she doesn't have a big role in this play, but in a way the whole play is surrounded by her. Her role is simple, short, and to the point. My least favorite character would have to be Giles Corey. I dislike Giles because he is always talking, he talks so much that people start to dislike him. He always feels like he must have room for what he needs to say, and most of the times he takes it too far.

Even though John Proctor believes in God as a Puritan, he screams "God is dead!" at the end of Act III. What did he really mean, and why do you think he screamed this, when so many people would obviously consider him an evil man for doing so?

Blogging Project Post #6

Personally, as I read Act III, I get more and more frustrated with how the court refuses to accept common sense and how they continue to put faith in the girls. What, in your mind, was the most rational evidence in Act III that the judges ignored?

When we usually think of witches, it is around this time of year, when we celebrate Halloween. Why do you think our society today worries so much less about witches than the Puritans in Salem did?

Blogging Project Post #4

Who is your favorite character in The Crucible and why? Who is your least favorite character and why?

This piece of literature was well written. I do not believe many people discussed the slave narrative because when engaging in conversation about the idea of racism and discrimination. This is why people did not participate in the discussion during class. I also belive the description of the environment/conditions aboard the ship was a little too much information for people in class to relate to.

Overall, the test was not too easy but at the same time kept me on my toes. I felt that it tested the information from the book well. The vocabulary was a challenge, but I got through it with a simple numonic device. I thought that the hardest part of the test were the essays. I also felt that I was in a crunch for time having more than one essay to complete.

i believe that so far throw the play i have seen just how stupid people can be. i belive the carecters display the ignorance of old society. this goes with mccharthism in that people's lifes are being controlled by a few with the power over otheres. the liars in the play who are the worst people are causing otheres to die
