The reason John Proctor shouted GOD IS DEAD, was because he knew the girls were wrong, and was upset with the fact that the judges and other townspeople would not take his word. What he really meant by saying this was that their is no liveliness in the town and not one good spirit. This man was being tried and falsely accussed for someting he did not do

I agree with this, john doesn’t believe that God is dead, he just shouts this to show to the town that the girls are wrong for what they are doing and the court is persecuting in the name of god, and by shouting this is also states that the court is wrong.
