Post: Frederick Douglass

After reading, would you rather be the poorest boy in Baltimore or Frederick Douglass when he is being treated great as a slave and why?

I would rather be a free, but poor, person than a slave. If your a slave you can be given to a master who will treat you bad. You have no rights or freewill. These you have has a poor person.

I would rather be the poorest boy in Baltimore because I would still have my freedom, I may not be the most wealthy, but what I want to do with my life I could do as I please.

That's a very hard question, but i would rather be the poorest boy in Baltimore. I know that i wouldn't have anything, but at least i have my freedom. Even though Frederick is treated nice as a slave, he is still a slave and can still get sold to another owner/master.

I think I would rather be Frederick Douglass instead of the poorest boy in Baltimore because at least I would have some food and a place to sleep. Even though Frederick was wiped I would rather have that then stave or almost starve to death.

I would rather be the poorest boy becuase when your a slave you dont know how long the good times will last. You never no when you'll be traded.

I would rather be treated great as a slave like Frederick because he was treated well and he was feed and clothed and had some money, also had shelter. Being a poor boy in Baltimore would be so bad because you have no money and food, clothes or shelter, so I think Frederick had some of it pretty good.

I think that I would rather be a free poor boy than have to be a slave who gets beaten, and can not eat. I think that anything is better than getting beaten. Frederick Douglass was treated very well for a slave but I still think I would rather be a free poor boy than a slave.

Personally, I would rather be the poorest boy in Baltimore. This is true because they have one greatly important thing that the slaves do not: freedom. Freedom is something that I could not imagine living without and, although I would have very little, at least I would have that to hold on to and be thankful for.

i would rather be Frederick Douglass when he was getting treated well because he got to eat and sneak things. And the poorest boy in Baltimore has to fend for himself and dosn't get food some times.

If I had a decision to be free and poor or a slave and treated well I would choose to be free. Even thought I would be poor I still would want my freedom. Being free can give you so many more oppertunites in the world.

I would rather be a free person than a slave even if I am the poorest person. I believe this because if you free you can always work to better the situation that you’re in.

I believe in any circumstance it would be better to be free and poor than a slave. I reason because first off you are free and you are able to earn money and secondly if you get freed as a slave then you are more than likely to be the poorest person in Baltimore if you were just freed. Also there may be discrimination that will take into affect if you were a freed slave so it may be harder to find a line of work.

In Frederick Douglass, I would much rather be the poorest person in baltimore than have an owner who would tell me what I would have to do.

I would never want to be someone else's' property and never be free. If i was the poorest person in Baltimore I have a chance to better myself and accomplish things so one days I become successful or live a decent life. A plus Frederick Douglass was treated well for a little while and then he went back to being treated bad. I wouldn't want that to happen to me.

I would rather be free and poor because I could always find a job, but if I am Frederick I'm not free.
Plus if im Frederick something could happen and I could end up being shipped off somewhere else.

I would rather be free, because even though you have nothing you can still be your own person and do whatever you wanted to do and go wherever you wanted to go. You aren't "property" and you have options when you are free. Being a slave subjects you to being under someone else's rules for life and you can't break free.

I think that if I had to choose between being the poorest boy in Baltimore or Frederick Douglass as a slave I think I would want to be poor, but free. As well as Frederick was treated, that was only by luck. He can only do certain things and he has a master, who as well as he treats him doesn’t let him do whatever he wants. If you were free then at least you could do almost whatever you wanted without having to answer to someone except your parents.

I would rather be poor because i would not like to be told what to do all the time and i much rather be able to do what i please.

I think I would rather be a poor boy bac opposed to a slave back in these times. My reason is because of freedom, something a poor man has, but a slave doesnt.

I think id rather be a poor boy in balitmore. Reason being is that being a poor boy in baltimore i could always get sent to an orphange and get adopted. As a slve in bmore i can never be free and do what i want in life.

Just like most of the people I would rather be a poor boy just because of the fact that you can't do anything without freedom.

I'd rather be frederick douglass because he grew up to be a highly respected man in society and was a great inspiration to blacks everywhere.
