Blogging Post #17

What did you all think of the story “Where is Here?” by Joyce Carol Oates. Since Mr. Dutrow was absent for a few days due to the retreat he was not able to describe the story to us, so it was really up to us to read and understand the story. I know for me the first time that I read the story I did not understand it. Then I read it again and I started to like it. I personally liked the fact that in such a simple theme the writer could make me feel interested in the story. Express your thoughts…

I liked the story, even though it took a little while to fully understand. I primarily liked the fact that this whole time I was reading I did not know what was going to happen next. Great story.

I thought the story was okay. A little difficult to comprehend in the beginning, but after going over a few parts, I started to understand the story.

Since I cannot read or comprehend what I have just read the first time around to save my life, the story made no sense to me I had to re-read about 4 times just to get a fuzzy image of what was happening.

This story was great. I was able to understand what exactly was going on and why the "stranger" appeared out of nowhere to visit the house. This story kept me reading, while expecting an exciting and surprising ending. Although the ending wasn't so good I don't think that ruined the complete story.

This story was one of the hardest stories for me to understand. The story started as if something terribly wrong was going to happen while the story progressed. In the end nothing physically happened to the family and the man. When the man was there it felt as if he brought the house back to life after all those years.

I liked the story. I liked that it was strange and had a weird feeling to it. It was a medium difficulty read. A man enters a house he once lived in when he was growing up. The family who lives there now didn't want to let him in but he looked lonely so they let him in. What was weird was when he showed the little boy that one math problem. After that they wanted the man to leave. He did and then it got really weird when you get a sense at the end that the family was a ghost. This all interested

I liked the story because it kept me interested because I was wondering where the guy was going to go next, and what he was going to say. One of the most interesting stories we read all year.

I think the story was interesting and easy to read. What I didn't understand was the concept, and the ending was disappointing because I was waiting for something else to happen.

I liked this story, even though it was somewhat difficult to comprehend at times. Its a good peice because it leaves things unanswered and open to the imagination. The psychological effect that the stranger had was very creepy and he seems to almost unlock something within the house.

I enjoyed reading this story even though it was difficult to comprehend without having it explained. I was slightly disappointed when the story ended without an answer. At the same time i liked it because i could make up my own ending or meaning of the story.

This story was rather interesting especially because of how it ended. This man was a true creeper in this one but there is no meaning of the story to me.

After reading “where is hear” without Mr. Dutrow I was left heavily confused. Even with his return and explanation of the story I was not overly confident in my knowledge of the book. Overall I did not like reading the book on my own or the explanation.

For some weird reason I enjoyed the story "Where is Here". I probably liked the story because you had no idea what was the point of it until the end. Much of the story dealt with a wondering man, who goes back to his old house and has flashbacks of his childhood. After he left, that same relationship his parents had of arguing and bad things, happened to the mom and dad of teh house, as soon as the man left.

I was actually really shocked at how much I enjoyed this story. It was so mysterious and kept me at the edge of my seat. I have found that very few books can do that to a reader, and I am glad that I was able to read this one. It had hidden clues and details within it for the more observant readers, also. Throughout the entire story, I was unaware of whether I was frightened or simply confused. Overall, the story was a very unique one.

I thought it was a little weird at first because the story did not seem to go anywhere with what it was talking about. However it was very creepy in the end and really made you wonder what happened to the man and even what the house does to the families that live their.

I really didn't like the story that much because nothing exciting happened. It was like your all hyped up to go on a roller coaster, you go on it, you get off and you realized it sucked and was a waste of time.

I think that the more you read this story the more you will like it. At first, the story has no excitment because you are waiting for something to happen that never does. But the more you read it the more thing your mind will pick up.

I Felt an urge to read more even after the first paragraph. For some reason I felt as if that stranger was something more than just a person who used to live there. The author kept me on the edge of my seat the entire story, just waiting for sometype of turning point in the story. I Definitely thought that the stranger was a ghost for sure, but I was just waiting for him to dissapear or something. Continuing to read, I realized that nothing was going to happen and it was very frustrating and left me confused.

It was not a bad story but took awhile to read not because it was to long or it had to many big words it was just a little dull to my taste> But after i read it in depth i gotr to understand it a litlle bit better.

I was very confused about this story. Especially at the beginnig of the story. I still dont even understand what to point of this story was. The ending was very open and left you thinking after you read.

I liked the story because at first, the story seemed like it was kinda boring, but as it went on the story got interesting. I thought it would be kinda creepy having some guy walking around my house without me knowing to much about them. I wish Mr. Dutrow was here to explain it to us.
