Blogging Project Post #5

When we usually think of witches, it is around this time of year, when we celebrate Halloween. Why do you think our society today worries so much less about witches than the Puritans in Salem did?

Today I don’t think that we worry about witches as much because we have come to believe that they probably don’t exist. I believe that in Salem they weren’t necessarily worried about witches but rather the excuse to have someone persecuted. I believe the Salem witch trials were more of people accusing others of being witches because it was easy to be convicted of it if you were lacking in knowledge of puritan religion. And today it is also considered unconstitutional to be accused of witchery.

I think today we as society don't accept the fact their is supernatural powers in the world. We also know that many people have not witnessed a witch; therfore, are not scared or frightened by them. Back in Salem they had no proof that witches didn't exist.

I think that today’s society doesn’t worry about witches because we are basically smarter then that. Back in Salem, their society was run off of god and the devil, and not really much common sense things. I think we just think about witches around the time of Halloween because they look scary and that’s what Halloweens all about!

I think that society today is a little less radical when it comes to religous views, unlike the Puritans of earlier times. We dont think of witches as threats

In today's society, we do not fear witches because there are none. No one has witnessed a witch, and we all know there are no super naturual powers that people may obtain. Back then, during the witch trials, no one had proof that they did or did not exist, thus if some one accused another of being a witch, they would believe them, because no one could prove either side.

I think a reason society doesn't worry about witches today is that we have grown to believe that they don't exist. In puritan times they were more naive and accusing everyone of witchcraft. They would also think that the devil worked through witches and that the puritans needed to save these people from the devil.

No for we believe that witches are impossible for we think in the realm of science and not in the realm of spirits. So we don’t believe that anyone can cast out their spirit at you and cause any harm to you.

We worry less because today we know more. We know there are no such things as witches. Puritan time was about 400 years ago.Their religion was different in Salem. the puritans were also very superstitious then. It was mainly ignorance for the reason so many people were accused for being witches. Today we think of witches with pointy hats, long noses and all fly on broom sticks. Disney has made witches into a childish characters.

We dont worry today because we know they dont exsist. Also, People today are also not as biblical as the puritan society. Their society was just based on good and evil, while ours is quite diffrent.

I think today socioty worries much less than in the time of the Salem witch trials for a number of reasons. One of these reasons could be that we have seen what happened during that time and realizedwitches do not exist. Another reason is that we may have learned from our past and Salem was an example for all of us. Still another reason could be that that the witch has been portraited as a fictional charecter in media now days so people just go with what they hear and see.

Today I think that people in today's society we do not worry about witches because they had the witch hunt back then because they wanted to get rid of the witches, and most of the time the people that were accused were not real witches people just accused them because they did not like them and they wanted to get rid of them.

Today, people are more concerned about the war, politics, crime and other real things. Rather than witches and warlocks and such.

I believe it is because there was so many different things that had went on back then that they could not explain, and now-a-days, there is so little that we do not. The different types of processes and procedures to find things out now are just astounding way beyond explination and/or comprehension.

People today do not worry about witches as much as the Puritans did because the Puritans were so concerned about being pure and keeping away evil that they would do anything to prevent it. People today also don't believe in supernatural things like witches and ghosts.

I believe that our society worries less about witches because we have had experience and time to adjust. I believe that as humans we naturally learn from others mistakes. There has been over three hundred years to learn that we should not incriminate others without evidence. With the way science is today it is easy to prove a witch wrong.

Society today does not worry about witches at all anymore because we have come to realize that there is no need to fear things that are just scary images people have created. In Salem people did not have as much knowledge as we do now and thought that everything bad that happened was the work of the devil.

I think that's we don't worry about witches that much because we are smarter then them, and we wouldn't let it get to that point because their are too many laws. We also know that witches and monsters are just scarey images that people made up just to get scared and excited.

In my opinion today as a society we do not believe in ghosts, or any supernatural powers or beings. The Puritans believed in witches and saw them as a threat because they were so religious, and also not extremely educated.

People now days take witches as a normal thing. We throw around words and names so much more than the Puritans did back in their time. Being called a witch is pretty common around this time and people don't think any thing of it most of the time. People just don't take time to waste on trials that they know are not true.

Todays society has come to not worry about witches as much because we have come to believe that they probably don't exist. Plus the fact of movies being fake they just think if its fake there then its fake outside the movie. But i think that in Salem they were not really worried about being a witch and witches being there they just didn't want to die. plus it was more people accusing people because it is easy to convince people.

I think that today we have bigger things to worry about. A witch back then is considered a satanist or a racist. We may not like those people but, America offers freedom of speech and religion. In Salem, their was nothing but Christians and that was the way of the world in Salem and nothing else.

I think today as a society we now know that witches are not real. Hopefully. But back then many people believed in them because you always have a out cast that wants to make a big deal about something and everybody falls right in to there scandals or what ever they are doing. Also since they though the witches had to deal with the devil and thought they would be come the devils slaves by selling there soul to them. And even today so people still get offense when they hear the word devil and they get freaked out because they think they might be going to hell.

The reason we don't worry about them is because we know that witches are not real. We are alot smarter than the people of Salem, and we know that there is no such things as witches.

I think that we don't believe in witches because we have the scientific knowledge that proves that witches don't exist. But back in Salem their religion proved to have a gap in it. They didn't have any scientific way of explaining things so they pointed towards a epidemic that was sweeping the Northeast at the time.

I think there are many reasons why witches are not stressed upon as they were in the Salem trials. One of which I believe that society now has more to worry about then witches, such as economic problems, and conflicts between countries such as war. Witches today wouldn't be a huge threat due to our police and national guard. Lastly I agree with some of my other classmates that we have learned from the Salem trials that witches are indeed fictional.

I believe that our society today doesn't worry about witches nearly as much as the people of Salem did because we are simply less gullible and more knowledgeable of the difference between logical and irrelevant evidence. I believe that the world has simply evolved into a more factual place that cannot be so easily turned upside down by a group of bored teenagers. Personally, I find it hard to believe that Salem was ever so blind to the fact that the girls were simply lying and making up stories. In the world today, witches are only common on Halloween.

I think it's because we now have the technology to prove that there no such things as witches. Back then they didnt have the thing we have today. Therefore they have to go under the assumption that the person is telling the truth

Society today does not consider witchcraft as the Puritians did because they we much more religious. Also, today we have an example people being accused of witchcraft but no one was a witch where as in Salem they had no big example. Other than this I am not sure.

Willis410 said...

I think the reason people don't believe in witches is because the science and technology today is far beyond than what it used to be. Back then, they had to rely on words on other people if they were a witch or not. Today we can simply prove and there has never been any evidence of witchcraft.

Troy Brodie said...

Today we don't worry about witches because we know/believe that they aren't real. The reason Salem worried about them is probably because they were never exposed to this type of supernatural behavior and wanted to stop it before their town was destroyed by this "force".

kfrance said...

Well for me, it's not to much that I think they dont exist, but rather because since then less and less people have stopped believing that they do. In Salem people were being killed for honestly no reasn. And to go along with the comment of why our society put such a big emphasis on Halloween; I think we all can agree that since it's considered a "holiday" let us make some money off of it.

We dont worry about witches now because we have proof that there is no such thing because there is always proof about what happens by using science. I think that the reason why people were so worried about witches was because they read the bible and followed it so strictly, that the first sign of something wierd, they blamed someone for witchcraft. I believe anything is possible so anything wierd can happen.

Today we dont worry about witches as much as they did in the puritan age because there society was purely based on religion and following god. We do practice religion in our time but we wont beleive that satan is taking over our town. The lack of knowledge in those times also led to people thinking crazy things that people today would just find unrealistic.

Fgoodwin said...

Today the reason i think we are less worried about witches is because we are more rational now than then. Back then they didnt know all the things we did and so they blamed them on unatural causes for an explanation and nowdays we even watch considered to be real witches do their work because we know nothings gooing to happen.

Today I believe that we worrie alot less about witches because of hollywood movies, along with other reasons as well. The main reason I think it was so seriouse for puritians because they were to stay faithful to God and by being a witch you were in an agreement of some sort with the devil.

I think that the reason people dont worry as much today is because as people learned througfhout history that witches and witchcraft has never really been seen by an individual. Also that as society grows more away from church and God that they are not afraid of consiquences.
