Blogging Project Post #7

Even though John Proctor believes in God as a Puritan, he screams "God is dead!" at the end of Act III. What did he really mean, and why do you think he screamed this, when so many people would obviously consider him an evil man for doing so?

He said God is dead because he meant in this town, God is dead. He screamed it because there was so many ridiculous things going on that he was cnsidered guilty. He was innocent and he wanted to let everyone know hat these girls are wrong.

proctor wants to show that he is innocent, so john fakes being a witch in a plea of desperation to save his wife and others in the town.

He shouted "God is dead" because he wanted to make a point that if God had existed, there is no way that he would have let this happen. He says it in front of everyone in attempt to snap them out of their dilusion.

Joe Winter said...

By "let this happen", I had meant in the court room, and the fact that all of those people that have never done anything bad in their lives were being put to death for crimes they had not commited.

Basically what John is saying is that there is no God in Salem, and especially in the courthouse where so much corruption and injustice takes place.

John Proctor is trying to make a point that there is no hope for him or anybody because the judges believe the girls. He screams it so that everyone can see whats happening and because he is mad at the judges for believing the girls fake attempt of being tortured by a fake bird.

John Proctor yelled out "God is dead", because he believes God is not in the court room, let alone Salem, because he thinks God would not let all of this evil and nonsense continue if he was present with them. This also shows that he is pointing towards the court saying there is no honest justice being brought forth to the trial.

When John screams god is dead he really means god has been replaced by the court in Salem. God is supposed to have all judgment over man the court has took it into their own hands to condemn people. John screams this partially because he maybe wasn’t thinking and because he really felt that way and wanted to be heard.

When John yells, "God is Dead!" He means that God is gone from the town, and that the court had overwhelmed the town. He yells it because John knows all of this is fake and if God was in the town, God would have showed the Judges that the girls were lying and playing tricks

John Proctor screamed “Gog is dead” because he wanted to make a point to the people in Salem that if they are such religious Puritans, then why are they letting all these innocent people get convicted for being witches and killed.

I think that tom proctor said "God is dead" because the town is treating the girls like gods. He also says this because they are convicting innocent people and sentencing them to death.

Proctor is one of the most mentally strong men in the book. He says "God is dead" because God is not reaching the accusers for the wrong they are doing. God is not present in the town and God is the one that is allowing the actions to happen.

The reason John Proctor said God is dead is because the entire town was turning into people like the people in Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God. The people were believing in things God would not let happen. Things that were against God, and the preacher was telling of God being extremely angry with them. God would not have wanted that.

Proctor said that " God is Dead" out of fusteration because of all the wrong things that have gone on in this simple little town. Everyone was believing a young girl and there was nothing to stop it. When he said this he was meaning that God is not present in this town.

I think Tom proctor said "God is Dead" because the town for some reason is treating the girls like god. And that plus God is gone from the town. he yells it because John knows all of this is so fake and if God was in the town he would had tried to show that all the girls were lying and playing tricks on people.

John Proctor screamed that God is dead because he thought it was dead in the court because he refused to believe that God would let this happen in the court. John is still a Christian but, he does not believe in the churches teachings and is angered by the thought of a court with two Reverend's and they are one of the worst ones of them all.

When John Proctor screams, “God is Dead!”, he is basically saying that the entire town is being run by fraud and basically the devil. It’s not really the devil itself, but nobody believes the people who are actually telling the truth. When John said this it was basically his last attempt at trying to make people wake up from whatever they were thinking that wasn’t true.

John screamed God is Dead because there was no justice in the town because the judges were believeing the girls over good common sense and faith. He said this to get the attention back to him so he could talk about the real issues.

When he said this he was angry at the courts for being so short sighted and refusing to admit that they’re wrong. He meant that in Salem the court and the people supporting it were not doing God’s work but the devil’s for they were killing the innocent and gaining form it.

John Proctor shouted "God is Dead" because he was trying to make a point. With the craziness of the court, and everyone being accused of witches, he believes that if God does exist, he would not allow such madness and false accusations in that courthouse. He also believes that the judges are corrupt and do not have a strong faith if they believe what is occuring is right.

John Proctor screams "God is Dead" because if there really was a Puritan God then he wouldn't allow these trials to happen. He says this because he has alraedy been accused of being a witch so he can say whatever he wants. And the fact that God would allow a whore to be given a seat of power like this is astounding.

Let it be known my fellow AmericanLit comrades that this is Kevin France's first blog post ever; so get your pens and paper or right clicks to copy and paste, because I'm about to drop some knowledge upon you. My thoughts are exactly as everyone else's. John Proctor basically realizes now that there is no way to save himself and the other people from being hung. And sort of in an effortless way he blurts "God is dead" not to further edge-on the thought that he is working for the devil, but saying in that one phrase that if there was a God, he is certainly not present in Salem or else he would not allow these foolish which trials to continue.

When he says God he practically gives up. The court still finds the kids innocent and now they were getting on John Proctor. The attempt saving of save with his wife had failed. He gave up and lied to him self and the towns people by saying "God is dead."

John Proctor says "God is dead," because he feels God is doing nothing to help the town of Salem. The judges are so stupid and don't know what their talking about. John gave up on God because God is not saving Salem and God could if he wanted to, but he didn't.

I believe that John Proctor screams "God is dead" out of pure frustration and overwhelming rage. He was an innocent man and was making it clear that the people doing the condemning in Salem were NOT doing God's work. In the town of Salem, God's love and fairness was simply not present.

I think that even though John Proctor was a Christian he screamed "God is dead!" because he believed that people had let themselves forget about God. He thought that this issue had become less about God and it had just unpurified the town. People began to do ridiculous and unchristian things. When he said this he did not mean that he thought God didn't exist, he meant that the presence of God had left Salem.

I think John Proctor is a very good Christian man even though he doesn’t go to church all the time. When he says, “God is dead” he didn’t really mean that god is really dead. What he meant was that the court is screwed up and if they don’t believe that his wife goody proctor is innocent that God is no longer with them anymore. Also that these girls are wrong and they are lying and where is God when they need him.

I think that when John Proctor screamed God is dead he meant that God was not present in the town. It is easy to believe that he is evil for saying this because I think that you could easily take it out of context. He did not mean it literally.

I believe the reason that John shouted out such a profanity was for a multitude of reasons. First i think that he was so frustrated with the court that he did not care what came out of his mouth. lastly i think since the court was "bringing down heaven and rising up a whore" he thought that the court was beyond corrupt and to a point of no return to sanity.

John Proctor says God is dead because if there were witches, God would not allow it. He would not let innocent people be convicted of being a witch and then hung for it. To him, God does not exist in Salem.

Troy Brodie said...

John said God is dead because of the hope he was losing because of the judges being so brainwashed by these fake spirits. He knew the truth and because no one else was seeing it this was all he could say.

Zack Jewby said...

I think that John Proctor said "God is Dead" because I think that he means is everyone is accusing everyone of being witches. He thinks that nobody trusts anyone. He is also trying to tell everyone that if there was a god that he would not let this happen to the town of Salem.

He means that God is no longer at work in Salem because eveyone is believing the girls that anyone who they name are witchs. I think he screams this because he is nervous about what will happen to all his innocent friends and family. I think that people though of him as being and evil man because nobody else would say such a thing about God and they dont respect that.

Bobblogs said...

He said god is dead because of the lack of faith he has in salem. The court is being so unjust and so many ridiculous things are happening so he states god is dead because he feels that he may not be alive in many people in salem anymore.

Fgoodwin said...

I think the reason he said god was dead is because if he was alive he wouldnt let these things happen to these innocent people. Instead showing the true nature god to him isnt doing anything to help the innocent people.

ElliottHyde said...

I think the reason for this statement is because he thinks that if God exsisted he would not allow any of the wicth trials occur but by saying this he is believed to be a witch.

KarlGreen said...

He shouted God is dead because they were all now looking for witchcraft in the town. They spent so much time that they spent no time trying to pray for the people because they know Gods power is stronger then the devil.
