I really didn't like the first chapter a whole lot. I was boring and I had wanted to hear about Gatsby and why he was "Great." One interesting thing was they way Tom is sort of a bumbling idiot. He tries to sound smart but it always backfires on him.

I think the book started pretty fast. The characters were not described to well to get a good understanding of their personality. The story already has many different story lines the book may go. This will probably make this book very interesting.

I think it was good. It was like a regualr firt chapter. The narrator tells us about his life and what's going on around him. He tells us important things that we need to know for futher in the story. An example is how Tom is having an affair with another woman. We learn a lot about the main characters, Most off, this is easy to read.

The first chapter of our new story "The Great Gatsby", was very interesting. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the book based on the first chapter, and our discussions in class.

I liked the first chapter of the book. It was very city like and I like that about this book. I also like the 1920's as well, the age of jazz and blues. This book reminds me of old New York and old jazz and blues. I can't wait to read more.

I think the chapter was very significant because it introduced us to many of the key characters in the book and set the theme in motion.

I actually enjoyed the first chapter of The Great Gatsby. It was however a little bit fast, because it just jumped right into the main story, without really detailing a lot of things that were happening. It also didn’t detail some of the main characters as well as I would have hoped.

The odd thing about this first chapter is how it starts with the nick describing his childhood and what he learned there and how that gives him the ability to right this book. Another odd thing is there is only one time that you actually see the main character and he isn’t really doing much in that scene.

I thought that it was good because it introduced the characters that are going to be in the book for a long time. It already introduced Nick as good and Tom as bad guy.

I liked the first chapter only because it did what it was sopost to it introduced us to the main characters that we were going to see and set the theme a little for us. but i also didnt like it a little because it was a little boaring. The story already has many different story lines the book goes by which wil make this book interesting to me.

After reading the first chapter of the story, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I loved it. There are very few books that I have ever found such interest in so early on. I can honestly say that I have at least a small interest in each and every character introduced. I am very excited to read more of the story.

I believe the first chapter was a great introductory into the book and it was very interesting. Although we never met Gatsby, Nick's friend Tom was quite wealthy and the description of his house made it seem very nice. Long Island seems like a nice place overall and I wouldn't mind living there some day.

The book "The Great Gatsby" sounds like a very good book already from reading the first chapter. I like books that take a while to finally introduce a character. In the first chapter, it talks about Gatsby but readers do not actually get to meet him in the book. Personally I like books like this they keep me interested and force me to keep reading without getting off topic and thinking about other things.

I think that the first chapter of The Great Gatsby is very boring. In the first chapter I was looking forward to reading why Gatsby is so great but the only thing that happened was that I found out that this man Tom is an idiot. The thing that I liked is that there will be many characters and plot twist in this book.

I thought the book was kind of boring and got off to a slow start. One character is very racist and We do not know anything about a man named Gatsby.

I liked the first chapter of The Great Gatsby because it has so much drama that is the best quality of America and that's why so many people come to this great land to start a new life filled with money, sex, and P Diddy parties every weekend. And the worst part is everyone probaly knows someone that is in some kind of situation like this and it shows that we haven't changed in 90 years.

My reaction to the first chapter is that I didn’t like it. I always seem to hate the first chapter because they seem so slow to me and I lose interest very quickly. It didn’t give a good description of the characters involved. I also didn’t like how Tom thought he would sound smart by talking about a book that had to deal with racism. That was a very stupid thing to bring up during a lunch or any meal with family and friends. I agree with Gangler about finding more information on Gatsby. Such as how did he become so rich, where is he from, what he does for a living, and why does he throw such big parties that he doesn’t really celebrate with his guests. I am still puzzled with Gatsby standing at the edge of Daisy's dock and holding his arms out to a green light. I wonder if he will explain himself later on in the book. I started to laugh when I read Steve Arnolds post and when he said "P Diddy" parties every weekend. I don’t think he’s doing this for fun. I think he’s trying to hide something from everyone.

I greatly enjoyed the first chapter of the book. I liked the fact that the author left a lot of loose ends. Since he did this, it gives me just a slight indication of where the book is going. It’s not like some books where when you read the first chapter you can practically predict the ending. I can see this book being very interesting and taking a lot of twists and turns.

The first chapter in "The Great Gatsby" was one of the better first chapters I have read. It tells alot but not to much. By reading the first chapter you can tell that this will be a good book. In the beginning you really dont hear much about Gatsby, even though the name of the book is "The Great Gatsby". That's what make me what to read on.

I personally did not enjoy the first chapter. I thought it was rather dull. I'm pretty sure I will start liking it as we continue to read since it was only the introduction of the characters.

I enjoied the first chapter of this book. I feel like it gave me enough information to find out what each individual charictars personality is like. It also does a pretty good job of explaining the areas in which they live.

When I first heard the book "The Great Gatsby" I thought this book would be so boring and just another boring novel we have to read in school but after reading the first chapter of it, it didn't seem as bad as I thought it would be. I thought most of the characters in it were pretty cool but a little to dress up, how everybody wears collared shirts and sweater feast all the time. But I guess that is what they wore and what the style was back then. The one thing I do really like is how everybody is down to have a good time and party in the book because it was the roaring 20's back then. But I am definitely looking forward to see what is to come with the entire dating situation in the book.

Thruthfully, I did not enjoy the first chapter of this book. Even though it was easy to read and very comprehendable, all of the backround information is putting me to sleep. But I guess thats what is takes to set up the reat of the book so I will be patient and try to keep reading with interest.

The first chapter to me was kind of dull. It didn't really have much into it except Nick just talking about what really was he did before he had moved to West Egg. But toward the end of the chapter it did get less dull and the bettering of the book came out.

I liked the first chapter of the book. It did a good job explaining the characters in the first chapter, It explained Nick well, and explained the setting well to. I like how there wasn't much talk about Gatsby yet. The Chapter was mostly about Daisy and Tom. So far it shows that the book will be a somewhat easy read. The first chapter I feel for me determines if I will like the story or not. Since I liked the first Chapter I think I will like the rest of the story.

The first chapter of "The Great Gatsby" was interesting in a way that we get to meet some of the main characters and what their lives entail. In the chapter, many things are revealed about the characters including Tom and his cheating towards Daisy.
